Frequently Asked Questions for "benefits"

Q: I'm a disabled person, who has walking difficulties, I heard disabled people get a 25% reduction in their Council Tax, am I entitled to a reduction?
A: The reduction for a disabled person for their Council Tax, only applies if you have had your house, physically altered for adaptations, eg, having your bath removed for a roll-in shower, it does not apply for adaptions such as a bed rail, or tipping kettle, as these are things which can be removed without having to alter the property. If you are entitled to a reduction, the reduction is actually a drop in banding and not a 25% reduction. For a Band A property the reduction is directly proportional in relation to a band D property. For more clarification on the Band A reduction, Inverclyde Council Tax Department would be able to clarify individual reductions. They can be contacted on 01475 712961. For an independent and friendly check to ensure you are getting all the benefits you are entitled to, contact the Financial Fitness Team, based at 5 Sir Michael Street, Greenock on 01475 72923
